والله اخرجكم من بطون امهاتكم لا تعلمون شيئا وجعل لكم السمع والابصار والافئدة لعلكم تشكرون
And Allah has brought you out from the wombs of your mothers while you know nothing. And He gave you hearing, sight and hearts that you might give thanks to Allah (Surah An Nahl 78)
How many times a day are we blessed and how many times a day are we grateful for these blessings? These blessings aren’t just the material blessings, the blessings include the softness of your heart that makes istighfar (saying AstagfurAllah) or sends salawat to our Prophet sAllahu ‘alayhi wa salam.
Hasan Al Basri said ‘He who does not see the blessings of Allah but in food, drink and clothing; then his knowledge is limited and his torment is near’
The key thing to realise is that even your abilities are a blessing. The ability to read Qur’an, to wake up for Fajr or give charity is all a blessing from Allah swt. Essentially, it is not from ourselves that we become ‘better’ people or perform good deeds, it is from Allah swt, it is His blessings bestowed upon us.
RasoolAllah sAllahu ‘alayhi wa salam taught us this beautiful dua:
اللهم اعني على ذكرك وشكرك وحسن عبادتك
Allahuma ‘ainee ‘ala thikrika wa shukrika wa husni ‘ibaadatika
Oh Allah, help me to remember You, to give thanks to You and to worship You in the best manner
Have a lovely and blessed day 🙂
