Tawfiq is from Him alone

This is a message from my beloved teacher. I hope it benefits you as it has me…

Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) said in the Qur’an, in Surah Baqara (185), that He wanted to make things easy for you, not difficult.  In saying this, Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) is telling you that He wants you for His own, and that He (subhanahu wa ta’ala), only wants khair for His creation. In the aforementioned ayah, even when commanding you to fast, stopping and restraining from things you normally enjoy, He commands you to this because He wants the best for you! (subhanahu wa ta’ala)

In this life, whenever you see Allah(subhanahu wa ta’ala) giving you tawfiq to be in the company of the people of Allah(subhanahu wa ta’ala), people who encourage you to do good things and become closer to Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) and Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasalam), be sure Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) wanted khair for you!

And when you see Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) give tawfiq to you to ask, beg, and make dua for anything whether it be minor or major, big or small, khair or protection from evil, be sure the He would not give you the tawfiq to make dua unless He wanted to give to you your request. He made you ask! (subhanahu wa ta’ala)

When you see Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) give you the tawfiq to make dhikr, the tawfiq to increase the amount of dhikr, to think about Him, to do things for His creation, to become close to His people, and to busy yourself in tasks for His sake, be sure that Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) loves you!  And for those whom He loves He will grant them success, support them and respond to everything they say. (subhanahu wa ta’ala)

Finally take this example – Imam Hasan al Basri (radiallah anhu), the great walitab’ee and scholar, taught us something very important, and this is our gift for those we love:

Once Imam Hasan al Basri (radiallah anhu) was seen all night making dua. What do you think he was making dua for?  What was he asking and saying?  Why was he raising his hands all night? The dua he was making is for Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) to forgive those who oppressed him!  SubhanAllah! A man who saw Imam Hasan (radiallah anhu) said “Ya Aba Saeed, you make so much dua for those who oppressed you that I wish to be one of them! Why do you make such a dua?” Imam Hasan al Basri (radiallah anhu) responded by saying, ”Don’t you see what Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) says,’…those who forgive and reconcile such that the situation is better than it was before, their reward is guaranteed by Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala)…!” (Surah Ash-Shura, 40)

This is our deen! This is the Ruh Muhammadiyya (sallallahu alayhi wasalam)! These are the things that should make us proud. May Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) give us the tawfiq for every khair, beneficial knowledge and good deed.

Allahumma salli alaa Syedina Muhammad wa alaa Ahli Syedina Muhammad
